Uunartuarsuk Spring.
Naturally Balanced Water

Disko Island, located on the West Coast of Greenland, is home to thousands of natural springs. Yet one stands out as truly exceptional: The Uunartuarsuk Spring. Naturally filtered it provides some of the purest and most balanced water on our planet.

Imivik of Greenland holds the exclusive privilege of tapping this pristine gift of nature, offering it respectfully to you - and the rest of the world.

PRESERVING PURITY

How We Tap

Water is delicate and highly sensitive to its environment, so we take every measure to not interfere with its natural state. The Uunartuarsuk Spring is encapsulated to shield it from any atmospheric influences. The water is carefully tapped directly as it emerges from the bedrock, and the water is bottled in sealed, air-tight containers less than two kilometers from its source.

The Secret
of Disko Island

Disko Island, one of Greenland’s UNESCO World Heritage sites, is the youngest island in the region, with a history dating back just 60 million years. The island is formed by basalt from volcanic activity and geological surveys have revealed coal. As the glacier atop slowly melts at its bottom layer due to thermal activity, the water gently seeps through the porous basalt rock, compacted sediments and coal layers.

Naturally Melted Glacier Water

Natural Filtration System

The water has a remarkably high oxygen content

The water from the Uunartuarsuup Sermia Glacier originates from ice that froze thousands of years ago, during a time when Earth’s atmosphere was virtually free from human influence.

Over millions of years, the immense weight of the glacier has compressed and compacted sediment layers, and when the water seeps through, particles get filtered out. Coal layers act like a sponge, removing additional impurities while the porous basalt further purifies the water.

The water has a remarkably high oxygen content of 7.0 mg/liter, a testament to its high purity. Because organic material consumes oxygen, the absence of impurities ensures that the water retains all its oxygen.

The result is alkaline spring water of unparalleled purity with a pH of 9.38 at the source, and an impressively low total dissolved solids (TDS) of 32 mg/L.

Nature

The name “Uunartuarsuk" translates to” the little warm one” as its temperature is a steady 1.6°C. This unique warmth has created a rare microclimate, resulting in botanical diversity seldom seen in Greenland.

The Moss on Disco Island

The moss is a vibrant green while the wildflowers bloom in an array of vivid colors and subtle hues. The striking contrast between the stark black basalt rock and lush vegetation makes this location a true natural wonder.

With an annual flow of 525 million liters, we collect only the water that melts naturally. We would never interfere with what nature has so meticulously perfected. For this reason, the area is carefully protected - any human disturbance could jeopardize the delicate balance of this incredible ecosystem.
